VP, Chief of Staff, Global Valuation

Position Overview

The VP Chief of Staff (COS), Global Valuation, plays a pivotal role in steering the function in support of RGA's success. The COS will be a member of the Global Valuation Leadership team and manage, prioritize, and provide counsel to all key activities and demands for the EVP, Chief Financial Actuary. This role will ensure integrated and aligned functional strategy development and execution, working across the Global Valuation organization and key partner areas in addition to bringing external environment and contact perspectives to the strategy process. The COS will lead key initiatives as called upon, and will create, implement, and maintain the Global Valuation functional performance analytics strategy and cost modeling strategy. The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of strategy development and execution, be extremely organized and an exceptionally effective communicator with a strong grasp of the function's purpose, vision, and work.

Responsibilities

  • Function Strategy & Goals
    • Lead the annual strategy review process coordinating with Global Valuation Leadership team, HR and other resources to formulate strategic plans and set goals, aligning with the Global Valuation function vision and mission as well as the broader RGA strategy.
    • Liaise with and consult Global Valuation leaders and key partners to support and propose strategic alignments and realize synergies across the organization while maintaining diplomacy. Lead and direct across a wide span with influence and persuasion.
    • Oversee and ensure follow-up on the execution and delivery of Global Valuation strategic initiatives and projects, execute any assigned initiatives, implement processes for tracking and regular monitoring as well as progress summarization and communication, identify key issues and propose potential adjustments or corrective action plans.
    • Maintain external contacts and bring industry outlook perspectives and developments to strategy setting and reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Key Performance and Risk Indicator Analytics
    • Develop and lead Global Valuation analytics strategy, advancing development, enhancement, and utilization of accurate, repeatable metrics and dashboards with analysis to provide actionable insights and recommendations.
    • Ensure that key functional metrics are reported and monitored on a regular basis.
  • Expense and Talent Management
    • Develop forward looking cost model and spend forecasting for Global Valuation, identifying the nature and drivers of future spend for various activities, quantifying how spend would be impacted as the business grows and changes, and proposing recommendations for more efficient spend for value.
    • Prepare and coordinate development of ROI for strategic initiatives, collaborating with Finance and other partners to tell the story for investments in Global Valuation initiatives and ensure ROI is achieved.
    • Coordinate with Finance on development, implementation, and monitoring of the function's budget and workforce planning, ensuring efficient and impactful spending decisions to support functional goals.
    • Serve as the point person for Global Valuation to direct consistent approaches for completion of time studies and cost allocation methodologies, review results for reasonableness and consistency, and propose improved approaches.
    • Assist with the review and development of job descriptions, hiring processes, business cases and workforce changes in the function, onboarding approaches, actuarial or valuation development programs or initiatives, feedback mechanisms, engagement initiatives, and other aspects of workforce management.
  • Function Communication and Coordination
    • Develop communication strategies to facilitate communication and information availability and sharing for the function, including stewardship of the Global Valuation Sharepoint site design and content.
    • Lead and facilitate functional communication efforts to ensure transparency of strategic direction and leadership intention across the Global Valuation function as well as key partners. Support the development and communication of any organizational changes and updates.
    • Serve as a member of the Global Valuation Leadership Team, driving agendas and accountability of takeaways and action items. Facilitate forward-looking discussions and decision-making regarding solutions and initiatives. Ensure an appropriate amount of leadership capacity is reserved for creative and forward-thinking activities.
    • Lead and facilitate the EVP's preparation for key meetings and communications, including but not limited to Quarterly Results/Board/EC/Investor Day meetings, functional Town Halls, and internal stakeholder value and cost story "road shows".
    • Act as the chair, facilitator and/or secretary for Global Valuation sponsored committees and/or working groups (e.g., Actuarial Leadership Group).
  • Support EVP with, and may directly perform, management duties including hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports. Foster a positive and engaged work environment and culture. Mentor associates and give guidance on associate development.
  • Perform other duties as required.



Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Actuarial Science, Business, Economics, Finance or related field
  • 10+ years of experience working across functions and disciplines, strategy, or consulting
  • 7+ years of relevant finance and/or actuarial work experience interfacing with and influencing senior leaders
  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics
  • Highly advanced analytical and problem-solving skills; thinking through creatively and also with attention to details.
  • Highly advanced ability to investigate, analyze and solve complex problems/issues.
  • Ability to rapidly gain/build trust and confidence of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work well in an environment with multiple concurrent projects, managing project-based workflow with demanding timelines and new methods
  • Strong sense of responsibility and understanding of the impact of meeting commitments.
  • Proven ability to lead, facilitate and drive decisions with executive management.
  • Proactive and proven project management and organizational skills.
  • Highly advanced people management skills, demonstrating an ability to lead, delegate, mentor and develop associates.

Preferred:

  • Actuarial designation or MBA

Pay is based on a number of factors, including market, a candidate's skills, and experience commensurate with a role, etc. salary range: $143,245 - $213,390 + bonus.
