Position Overview

Plays a critical role in supporting and securing long-term success for the Americas regional business. Leads and manages forward thinking financial risk management for the Americas Region, liaising with businesses and Global Risk Services (GRS) and other corporate areas.Assists the SVP, Chief Risk Officer, in driving Americas Risk Management culture, functional strategy, planning and operations consistent with the global ERM framework as well as applicable regulations, contractual commitments, and corporate policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Leads departmental efforts to develop, implement, or enhance the framework, capabilities and identification of best practices for financial risk management, collaborating with business unit Risk Owners (ROs) and aligning with the broader ERM framework and Global Risk Services (GRS) policies and frameworks. via SRMOs and LROs, considering applicable regulations, contracts, and corporate policies and standards. Financial Risk includes, but may not be limited to, insurance (e.g., mortality) risks, market and credit risks, capital, deal review, model, pricing and inforce management risks, treaties and applicable regulations.
  • As the Regional Risk Owner (RRO) for Financial Risks, drives objectivity and consistency in risk assessment and quantification as well as accountability and suitability for risk ownership and risk actions identified
  • Serve as an expert and advisor in financial risks and risk management, providing constructive challenge and risk review; includes block acquisition / M&A/exit/portfolio management financial risk assessment
  • Conducts risk and/or control assessments, peer or tech reviews, quality assurance reviews and/or supports audits as a SME where sufficient independence allows
  • Develops and delivers regional reporting on financial metrics including capital use, NBEV, returns, investment/ALM and inforce profitability.
  • Participates in development of capital and pricing standards and provides expertise in the region.
  • Manage, monitor, and report on financial risk activities and incidents/issues/findings, ensuring appropriate stakeholder involvement, communication and escalation
  • Leads, participates in, and/or supports local, regional, and/or global risk management committees, working groups, or other forums
  • Collaborates with global and segment ALM functions, business units, finance, global/USLA corporate modeling/valuation, and investments to fulfill ALM/ORSA and business portfolio analysis duties for USLA region
  • Own and maintain a compiled inventory of financial risks, related processes and monitoring tools/reports, mitigations and controls, along with applicable laws/regulations, contractual provisions, and corporate/segment policies and standards
  • May serve as Chief Risk Officer for a subset of USLA business
  • Serve as a member of the Americas RiskManagement leadership team, contributing to the development of functional strategy, goals and objectives consistent with USLA strategy and RGA's strategy, mission, vision and values
  • Performs management duties including, but not limited to:hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, guiding, mentoring and disciplining direct reports. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment. Mentors associates and gives guidance on associate development



Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Math, Finance, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics or related field
  • 15+ Years actuarial experience in life insurance and/or reinsurance
  • 5+ Years project leadership and/or supervisory experience
  • FSA - Fellow of the Society of Actuariesaccreditation or equivalent
  • Highly advanced actuarial technical skills
  • Highly advanced PC skills and advanced understanding of actuarial systems - including spreadsheet, database, and actuarial projection tools (AXIS, TAS, ALFA, MoSes)
  • Highly advanced understanding of reinsurance concepts and methods
  • Highly advanced ability to model various insurance products and complex reinsurance or other financial structures
  • Highly advanced oral and written communication skills including presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to convey information in a way that is meaningful and well received by stakeholders and team members
  • Highly advanced ability to adapt new methods; work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions
  • Highly advanced ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies
  • Highly advanced ability to implement organizational, divisional and/or departmental vision and goals that result in achievement and success through exceptional leadership skills, collaboration, creative thinking, maintaining focus, and persistence, even under adversity, while maintaining the confidence of associates and customers
  • Expert knowledge of life insurance products
  • Expert ability to challenge and enhance analytical capabilities
  • Expert ability in implementing change within an organization, ensuring understanding, participation, and ownership
  • Advanced understanding of GAAP, statutory and tax accounting and reporting
    • as well as other forms of financial and risk measurement such as embedded value and capital frameworks



Preferred

  • MAAA accreditation
  • Reinsurance industry experience
  • Experience working in cross-geography, cross-functional, and/or virtual teams
  • Finance or ERM track or emphasis in background
  • In-force life insurance or reinsurance block transaction experience
  • Understanding of asset-liability management, asset modeling techniques and capital markets
  • Familiarity with advanced principles of economic-based financial reporting frameworks, such as Economic Capital, Embedded Value, and RAROC.
  • Familiarity with data analytics applications.
  • Advanced life insurance and/or reinsurance industry and product knowledge.

Compensation Range:
$188,345.00 - $287,000.00 Annual

Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
